Steven van der Velden

Steven van der Velden (b. 1956) has gained extensive entrepreneurial experience in consultancy, real estate, telecommunications, e-commerce and investment management. He founded his first consultancy in 1983. Since then Steven has successfully started over a dozen companies, mainly active in information communication technology (ICT), logistics, real estate and hotel development. Between 1986 and 1988, Steven co-headed a team of 16 consultants who advised on and implemented a wide range of measures to balance the budgets and to restructure the internal organizations of the governments of the Netherlands Antilles and Curaçao. From 1988 until 1992, he served as the first Managing Director of Antillephone. Currently, he is still a Director of Unicom, of which Antillephone is a wholly owned subsidiary.

In 1994, Steven co-founded the International Telemedia Association, known today as the Network for Online Commerce, and served as its first chairman. In the same year, he co-founded InTouch Telecom to offer a wide range of business and consumer telecom applications to the Belgian market. Under his leadership, InTouch became the second largest carrier in Belgium and was successfully sold to Global Telesystems Group in 1999. In 2000, he co-founded E-commerce Park, which has developed an 8,000-square-foot data center and Internet hosting facility, located on top of the various fiber optic landing points in Curaçao.

From 2002 till 2006, Steven served as CEO of QAT Investments, a mid-size, Luxembourg-based, early/mid stage private equity fund. Since being appointed as Chairman and CEO of Elephant Talk Communications, Inc., in 2006, Steven still serves QAT Investments as Chairman of the Board of Directors.

Steven obtained a master's degree in Law (Leiden University) and a master's degree in Business Administration (Rotterdam School of Management). He is married with four daughters and splits his time between homes in Curaçao and Brussels.
