Sungard Availability Services® (Sungard AS), a leading provider of information availability through managed IT, cloud and recovery services, has appointed Jean-Philippe Sohier as the company's first senior vice-president of European Sales. Sohier will lead a European sales team of over 200 people. Covering the UK, Ireland, France, Belgium, Luxembourg, Poland and Sweden, Sohier joins Sungard AS' leadership team and will report directly to Keith Tilley, executive vice-president, global sales and customer services.

The creation of this role comes at an important time for Sungard AS, which has made several announcements related to its expanding cloud, production and recovery solutions portfolio in recent months. These new solutions can now be rolled out faster than ever before via new centres of competence set up across the UK, Europe and the US - enabling the company's 7,000 customers to benefit from 35 years of experience, accessing operational and technological expertise wherever in the world they are based.

With 30 years of experience in management, corporate development and strategy within companies such as France Telecom/Orange, Atos and Colt, Sohier previously held the role of chief marketing officer at managed services company MEEZA, where he was responsible for the sales strategy and development for the Middle East and North Africa regions. Prior to this he spent eight years at COLT Group, where he held responsibility for sales across 13 countries, selling data centre services, managed services and cloud services supporting both business divisions and indirect channels. Sohier holds an MBA from EDHEC Business School.

Commenting on the appointment, Keith Tilley, executive vice-president, global sales & customer services, Sungard Availability Services said: "We're extremely pleased to welcome Jean-Philippe Sohier, who not only brings his technological and business expertise, but his knowledge of European markets, a vital asset to our organisation."

Sohier added: "I'm delighted to be joining Sungard AS as it seeks to further develop its strategy in the European marketplace. I have every confidence in the skills, experience and capacity of the Sungard AS teams in making this transition, supporting the company's clients and meeting their emerging requirements."
