Li joins ANZ from Royal Bank of Scotland Group, where he was most recently country executive and head of Global Banking Markets for China.

Li will commence with ANZ China on 1 February, based in Shanghai. The appointment is subject to regulatory approvals.

Plante said Charles is a well-regarded banking leader who is experienced in building a business and leading a global markets business in China.

"We are delighted to welcome Charles as CEO for ANZ China at a time when we are significantly expanding our capabilities and network for our clients in China.

"Since establishing our locally incorporated entity last October we have increased the pace of our expansion, including plans to open a branch in Chongqing and apply for RMB licenses to provide local currency products to affluent and emerging affluent individual customers," Plante said.
