HSBC said that it has no connection to the website, which has the domain name www.zabugor.org/modules/li.htm. The bank added that customers should not divulge any personal information until they have ensured that they are connected to the company’s legitimate website.
HSBC said that it takes the privacy and confidentiality of its customers’ information seriously and that its internet banking service is equipped with security technology of the highest industry standards to ensure that customers are protected against fraud.
HSBC has reported the fraudulent website to the Hong Kong Monetary Authority and the police. The bank is working with relevant authorities to shut down the fraudulent website and urged concerned customers, or those that have had dealings with the website, to ring its customer helpline.
HSBC said that its internet banking users are asked to provide a one-time security code generated from their security device, in addition to their user ID and password to log on the internet banking site. This additional security measure offers customers further protection against fraudulent activities such as phishing, remote hacking and screen capturing.
