Tokyo-based Nomura has named industry veterans Charles Spero and Jeffrey Michaels as managing directors and joint heads of Fixed Income in the Americas.
They will be responsible for all Fixed Income functions including sales, trading, research and structuring in New York. Both report globally to Tarun Jotwani, senior managing director and global head of fixed income and locally to Shigesuke Kashiwagi, president and chief executive officer of Nomura in the Americas.
Mr. Spero joins Nomura from Barclays Capital where he was responsible for the trading of all non-agency, asset-backed and commercial mortgages, securities, derivatives and indices within the securitized products business. He previously spent 12 years at Lehman Brothers, most recently as head of Securitized Products for the Americas, which was one of the firm’s largest and most significant businesses.
Mr. Michaels most recently served at Citigroup, as head of Rates Trading in North America. He previously served at Lehman Brothers for eight years, becoming head of US Rates trading in 2006. Prior to that, he spent 11 years at J.P. Morgan where he became their head of US Volatility Trading and ran the options trading desk which held number one market share.
