Santander México has completed a full migration by moving its entire technology infrastructure to its global cloud-based platform, Gravity.
The migration aims to enhance customer experience with faster flows and new digital capabilities.
With this development, Santander México becomes the first systemic bank to achieve such digital transformation in the Mexican banking sector.

Santander México said the migration helps align with digital native enterprises, offering quicker, simpler, and more secure access to data on each transaction.
Santander retail and commercial banking technology and operations global head David Chaos said: “The experience of implementing Gravity in Mexico speaks to the ability of Santander’s global teams and moves us closer to achieving our aim of becoming the best open financial services platform and the first major bank in the western world to operate fully in the cloud.
“We’re now using Gravity in Spain, the US, Chile and Mexico.”
The cloud migration is expected to reduce the time needed to implement new features and enables more frequent updates to its banking app.
This is expected to improve the speed, experience, and value offered to customers.
With Gravity as its core banking platform, the bank will process over 250 billion transactions annually, 38,000 transactions per second with no interruption.
According to Santander México, Gravity was developed as its cloud-based platform, incorporating the latest features.
Santander México country head Felipe García Asencio said: “This is a decisive step in transitioning towards an open platform with modern and efficient data management as well as greater scalability, resilience and capability to monitor transactions.
“Moreover, it enables us to absorb transactional growth in Mexico and puts us on equal footing with digital native enterprises that have operated this way since their inception.”
Last month, Santander announced the merger of Openbank and Santander Consumer Finance (SCF) into a single legal entity, under the Openbank brand.
