The primary duties of the newly created account analysis counselors will be to help customers properly maintain and monitor their accounts in order to avoid excessive overdraft fees.

MidSouth Bank president and CEO Rusty Cloutier said that the bank took the lead in changing the dynamics of how banks can work more closely with their customers so that they don’t overdraw their accounts.

MidSouth Bank risk manager Glenda Montet, who oversees the program, said that the counselors will stay up-to-date on state and federal regulations and guidelines and will file monthly reports on the results of their interaction with customers.

"Our customers will be greeted by a friendly, empathetic employee, and we are going to closely monitor the success of the program to ensure that customers are getting the advice and guidance they need to keep their accounts out of delinquency," Montet said.
