A spokesperson at the bank said as part of their ongoing plans to simplify their business model, they have decided to withdraw from the equity market.

"This is a strategic decision based on a refocusing of efforts against our core strengths of providing debt financing solutions to UK customers," the spokesperson said.

The equities arm helped mid-sized corporate customers to issue shares through rights issues, initial public offerings and placements.

Though Lloyds Bank had presence in equity markets since last five years, it failed to make any impact on the market as it lacked scale.

Recently, Lloyds also sold a private equity portfolio that it inherited from its wholly owned subsidiary HBOS, a banking and insurance company in the UK.
