According to the research, 54% of 16- to 21-year-olds are willing to use their mobile phone to check the balance on their current account. The group was also found to be almost twice as likely than any other age group to engage in new banking methods, with 44% willing to use their handset to check they have enough money to make a purchase and 38% willing to check mini statements via their handset.
In addition, 27% said that they would use the mobile banking service to keep an eye on their finances while abroad.
The service provides customers with secure access to their finances 24/7, at home or abroad, with instant account balances and mini statements on their handset screen. All customer details are protected by a personal passcode and information is automatically deleted from the phone’s memory. The bank has said that it will enhance the technology to enable bill payments and account transfers in the future.
To encourage customers to sign up to the mobile service, the bank is offering a GBP10 incentive, which will be credited to their account, available only until the end of June 2007. In addition, by using mobile banking, Premier 21 customers will also be eligible for free mobile phone top-ups.
