Based in Tokyo, Asami will lead the firm’s industry client coverage in Japan as well as develop and manage relationships with key clients.
Asami will join from Deutsche Securities in Japan, where he was a managing director and head of the technology, media and telecom group as well as head of the healthcare group within the global banking division since 2009.
Prior to Deutsche Securities, he spent 13 years at Goldman Sachs Japan’s investment banking division in a similar role.
The hiring of Asami follows the recent appointment of Naoki Toyoizumi as managing director and head of M&A, and Katsuhiko Hatazawa as director to lead the corporate finance department’s healthcare and chemical coverage effort.
Barclays Capital vice chairman and head of investment banking Japan Tetsuya Kawano said that with over 15 years of coverage and advisory experience, Asami brings strategic vision across all segments of the business as well as vast knowledge, expertise and relationships to our global investment banking franchise.
