The Co-operative Group group chief executive Euan Sutherland said, "He clearly brings the strategic and operational skills that we need to help take the Bank to the next stage of its development."
Booker, who will also be a member of the board of the bank, has worked in several management roles at HSBC across its retail and corporate banking divisions.
He was recently serving as group managing director and chief executive officer of HSBC North America and work through the issues in HSBC Finance Corp, including with HSBC North America Holdings’ regulators.
From February 2008 to June 2010, he acted as chief executive officer of HSBC Finance Corporation, while from March 2007 to February 2008; he worked as chief operating officer HSBC North America.
Previously, from May 2006 to March 2007, he served as deputy chairman and chief executive officer, HSBC Bank Middle East and from November 2002 to May 2006, he was group general manager and chief executive officer of HSBC India.
