At present, Vietnam has approximately 3,000 ATMs. As part of this deal, Vietnam Private Bank (VPBank) will deploy 250 Opteva units throughout Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City during the remainder of 2007. The balance of ATMs will be installed at the bank’s 80 branches and retail banking locations nationwide between 2008 and 2010.
This deal is good for VPBank, its customers and the entire Vietnam economy because it will significantly advance the development of retail banking services throughout the country, said James Chen, senior vice president of Diebold’s Asia Pacific and Europe, Middle East and Africa divisions.
Since the launch of the Opteva ATMs in 2003, more than 100,000 terminals have been sold worldwide. To protect against ATM fraud, Diebold implemented new, leading-edge technology that integrates video intelligence directly into the ATM and transforms the way that fraudulent devices are detected and communicated to the financial institution. Consequently, any sustained alteration to the ATM fascia will trigger an alert.
