In this new role, Loes will be responsible for developing regional themes and enhancing HSBC’s Latin America economics research franchise.

He will continue in his current role as chief economist for Brazil and the economics teams in Brazil, Mexico and Argentina will report to him, HSBC said.

Loes joined HSBC as chief economist for Brazil in August 2008. Prior to that, he spent eight years at Santander Brazil, where he held several roles including Brazil chief economist, head of Equities and head of Equity Research.

Earlier in his career, he was an aide to Brazil’s foreign trade secretary.

Boucher said having built a strong reputation for quality Brazil economics coverage, Andre will be responsible for one of the world’s fastest growing regions at a time when links between Latin American countries are expanding rapidly. The skills he brings combined with HSBC’s local teams on the ground will allow them to further enhance the visibility of their Latin American economics franchise.
