Industrial and Commercial bank of China (ICBC) has launched a new anti-phishing security control in order to substantially enhance customers’ anti-fraud capacity and further guarantee the information security of Internet Banking. ICBC reported that this new security control enables customers, even those who are in lack of knowledge about Internet security, to judge the authenticity of the visited website in an easy and convenient way.
Experts at ICBC E-banking state that the frequent appearance of phishing sites has emerged as a global concern and impeded the healthy development of Internet financial services and e-commerce. Moreover, it has also endangered public interest and reduced people’s confidence in Internet Banking.
The so called Internet phishing refers to the criminally fraudulent process of attempting to acquire sensitive information such as bank card number, Internet Banking password or code by masquerading as a trustworthy entity in an electronic communication, such as fake bank website or fake Internet Banking payment page. Since Internet attacks such as phishing scam are highly deceptive, in the past customers could only rely on their own vigilance and risk awareness to prevent from the potential danger.
After the installation of anti-phishing security control tool by customers, it will automatically inspect the website addresses customers input in the address bar upon opening the IE browser. The control will send out alerts so that customers can easily recognize and avoid the phishing sites that contained in the blacklist, thus efficiently preventing them from the fraud and attack of phishing sites.
