As per the partnership, DOCOMO’s domestic payment network will be connected across the globe to facilitate customers using iD mobile credit payments with compatible smartphones to make contactless payments outside of Japan.
MasterCard Worldwide Asia/Pacific, Middle East and Africa president Said Vicky Bindra said that the launch is a significant step for business expansion in the region.
"Our collaboration with NTT DOCOMO will open up endless possibilities of new forms of payments and other value-added services, and will help us continue to make contactless payments safer and easier, giving consumers more choices in how to pay," Bindra added.
The service is expected to launch in the first six months of 2013, and will be initially available on two new DOCOMO handsets including Xperia AX SO-01E and NEXT series AQUOS PHONE ZETA SH-02E.
