Prior to accepting the current role, Porter worked with Alexander Forbes Wealth as head of wealth management for five years and before that held various positions at Heartwood Investment Management, HSBC Private Clients and Sedgwick Financial Services.
Sanlam Private Investments UK chief executive Craig Massey said Porter "would be working with us to develop a strategic direction for our burgeoning wealth management business."
He will oversee the development of wealth management business in the UK by offering services to high net worth clients.
Headquartered at Bellville near Cape Town in South Africa, Sanlam Private Investments manages offices throughout South Africa and business interests elsewhere in Africa, Europe, India, the USA and Australia.
