Scotiabank, a Canada-based bank, has introduced two new mobile services to keep customers informed during their busy days. Scotia InfoAlerts notifies customers via text message or e-mail of transactional activities in their accounts. Another service is an application for the iPhone and iPod touch or Blackberry smartphones that provides customers with a GPS locator for Scotiabank branches and ABMs.

With more than 15 account information and real-time security-related alerts available, customers can choose the notifications they would like to receive and when such as account balances (daily or weekly) on debit and credit accounts, Visa/line of credit (LOC) minimum payment due and specific Visa/LOC balance reached. The security related features include debit and Visa card transaction alerts, ABM withdrawal and deposit alerts, and VISA use in a foreign country.

The bank has said that the security-related alerts advising customers about unusual activity on their account are provided at no cost while all of the account information alerts are currently offered for free until May 31st, 2010.

Scotiabank has also introduced an application for the iPhone and iPod touch or Blackberry smartphones. The service also offers details about branches including hours of operation, contact details and languages spoken.

Jason Charlebois, vice-president, self service banking at Scotiabank, said: “With Scotia InfoAlerts our retail and small business customers will be kept up-to-date with their account activity. Customers simply identify the account information they would like to receive and the bank does the rest, providing a convenient and secure way for customers to stay informed.”

John Doig, senior vice-president of marketing at Scotiabank, said: “Our current application features a branch locator which provides a quick and convenient way for Canadians to locate a nearby Scotiabank branch or ABM from wherever they are.”
