Featuring a fingerprint scanner that recognizes the customer’s thumb impression, the biometric ATM will remove the need to use personal identification numbers, thus enabling the rural illiterate community to access banking facilities.
The report said that the ATMs would be launched on a pilot basis in places where the bank has a strong hold. The financial daily has also quoted sources at the bank saying that a district in close proximity to Kolkata would be targeted for the launch.
