Under this agreement, Societe Generale’s ATMs in 14 countries in Europe and Africa and merchants in eight countries, will gradually realize UnionPay card acceptance within one year.

In 2010, UnionPay cooperated with Societe Generale to open the UnionPay card acceptance business on the ATMs of the Societe Generale in France, Monaca and Reunion.

Societe Generale’s retail banking outlets are available in 37 countries, mainly covering Middle and East Europe, Africa and the Mediterranean area.

The bank’s total number of ATMs and POS terminals exceeded 6,400 and 51,000 respectively. Societe Generale will also issue RMB UnionPay debit cards in China.

Societe Generale (China) has become the twelfth foreign legal person bank to join UnionPay network.

UnionPay president Xu Luode said that the global cooperation between UnionPay and Societe Generale will integrate market advantages of both parties, further expand the application range of UnionPay cards, enhance customer service level of both parties and better satisfy the card use demands of cardholders.

Societe Generale International Retail Banking director Vincent Gourmelen said that the event of Societe Generale (China) formally joining UnionPay network and issuing RMB UnionPay debit cards is another significant milestone for Societe Generale in its 30 years operation in China.
