The card is fitted with a magnetic stripe technology, mainly used in the US, as well as the EMV Chip technology widely used in Canada, Europe and other nations across the globe.
Integreation of both technologies on one card guarantees that the purchases can be conveniently processed around the world.
US Bank Corporate Payment Systems senior sales and marketing officer Jeff Rankin said that for international business travelers, the US Bank Global EMV Card delivers greater convenience and compatibility with overseas merchants.
"It allows cardholders to go anywhere in the world with confidence. This natural evolution of our travel card offering promises to bring more global consistency to our customers," Rankin added.
In an EMV card, an embedded microprocessor (chip) in the card assists for both chip-and-signature and chip-and-PIN authentication options.
The PIN option of the card caters easy use in train stations, parking lots and other places where agents are not always available to process transactions, and where no PIN is required, cardholders can sign for their purchases, claims US Bank.
Accordingg to the service provider, It is available on both Visa and MasterCard platforms.
In July last year, the bank commenced issuing commercial cards with full chip-and-PIN capability for corporate clients in Europe, and also launched EMV technology to the US consumer market with its FlexPerks Travel Rewards Visa card.
