Worldpay, a payments technology and solutions company, has announced a partnership with digital identity platform Trulioo to enhance security in artificial intelligence (AI)-driven commerce.

Their collaboration aims to reinforce trust, consent, and accountability in digital payments facilitated by AI. This partnership intends to address the rising need for verifying agent identities and obtaining clear consumer consent within AI-based shopping.

Central to this initiative is the Know Your Agent (KYA) framework, bolstered by a Digital Agent Passport. Developed by Trulioo in collaboration with PayOS, this credential set helps merchants determine an AI agent’s legitimacy and authority.

The KYA framework outlines protocols for confirming developer identity, code integrity, user consent, and continual agent reliability.

Worldpay chief product officer Cindy Turner said: “Innovation in payments must always be grounded in integrity and trust. By partnering with Trulioo, we’re delivering the trust infrastructure our ecosystem needs and empowering businesses and consumers to embrace AI-powered commerce with confidence, knowing that safety and transparency are at the heart of every transaction.”

Worldpay plans to enable merchants to utilise the KYA framework, ensuring that shopping agents act with validated consumer intent and granted authority. This innovation could aid merchants in enhancing sales while guarding against fraud and unauthorised transactions.

The partnership aims to foster new experiences like intelligent checkout flows and real-time fraud detection without compromising security or oversight.

The approach will provide benefits across the ecosystem, such as reducing fraud, improving checkout conversion rates for merchants, and allowing consumers to trust their AI assistants’ permissions.

The broader commerce sector may benefit from a shared trust layer that supports innovation while complying with regulatory standards.

Trulioo CEO Vicky Bindra said: “Agentic commerce has significant potential, but it can only scale with trust built in from the start.

“With Worldpay, we’re laying the foundation for a more secure and accountable digital ecosystem – one where AI agents can operate transparently, and consumers stay in control.”

Last month, Worldpay announced its expansion of the Worldpay for Platforms service into Canada and the UK, alongside a deeper presence in Australia. This service enables software providers to embed secure payment experiences within their platforms.

It offers a fully managed payments service to mitigate risks, simplify compliance, and support platform providers in focusing on core services. By offering a single integration point for various payment methods through modern API architecture, this service improves payment integration and business management capabilities.
